Comparison
Eclyde vs Just Eat, keep both.
Just Eat is a genuine demand machine, and telling you to walk away from it would be bad advice dressed up as a sales pitch. The real argument is about which orders belong on which channel.
In short
Just Eat is a marketplace that brings restaurants customers they would not otherwise reach, in return for commission that commonly runs 25 to 30 percent per order when the platform delivers. Eclyde gives you a branded ordering channel you own, at 0% commission on the Flat Rate plan, with the customer data staying yours.

What does Just Eat actually give you?
Demand you did not have to buy. A delivery network covering streets your own driver would never reach. A brand people search by name at nine on a Tuesday when they have not decided what they want yet. And an app already sitting on the phone of everyone in your area, which is a distribution advantage no independent can build alone. A new restaurant with no website and no list can be taking orders on day one. That is worth real money, and the honest question is not whether it was worth it, but whether it is still worth what it costs you now.
What does the commission cost per order?
Work it out on your own contract, because rates vary by deal and by whether they deliver. Commission commonly runs 25 to 30 percent when the platform handles delivery, less when you deliver yourself. On a €25 order at 28 percent, that is €7, which on most menus is the whole margin and then some. The same order on your own page costs you the card fee and your share of a flat monthly bill. That is the entire argument, and it only bites on repeat orders, because a first-time customer they found for you was arguably worth the €7.
- Your own branded ordering page and your own menu
- No competitor listed directly above your best seller
- Customer names and order history stay with you
- 0% commission on Eclyde's Flat Rate plan
Will you lose customers by going direct?
Some, yes, and anybody who tells you otherwise is selling. A large share of marketplace users order by app habit and do not much care whose kitchen the food came out of; those customers stay on the app whatever you do. The ones who order from you by name, who know which of your dishes they want before they open anything, will move if you give them a reason. So do not plan on shifting the whole book. Plan on shifting the regulars, which is where the commission hurts most anyway.
How do you actually move regulars across?
Slowly, and with a few unglamorous things done consistently. A flyer in every bag with a code that only works on your own page. A direct-only price or a free side, so ordering direct is visibly better rather than merely virtuous. Your web address on the packaging, the bag and the shop front. Staff mentioning it at collection. Then loyalty on your own channel so the habit sticks. This takes months, not weeks, and restaurants that expect it in a fortnight give up in three.
What else changes when you are not only on a marketplace?
The operation joins up. The till, the kitchen display, your drivers, the rota and the reporting all sit in one place, and Just Eat orders land in that same queue, so you are not choosing between channels during a rush. You also get to see something a marketplace will never show you: which customers have gone quiet, which dishes carry the margin, and what a delivery order really earns after everything comes off it.

Should I leave Just Eat?
Probably not, certainly not straight away. Keep the listing for discovery and for the customers who only ever order through an app, and work on moving your regulars to your own page. Most restaurants run both for a long time, and some run both forever, which is a perfectly sensible outcome.
Will my volume survive going direct?
Your total volume usually dips before it recovers, because you are asking people to change a habit. What changes immediately is the margin on the orders that do come direct. If you are relying on marketplace discovery for most of your new customers, keep it and shift only the repeat business.
How do I get customers to order direct?
Give them a reason and make it visible. A code in the bag, a better price or a free side on your own page, loyalty points that only build there, and your address on everything that leaves the restaurant. Then let the platform's marketing do the follow-up: it notices the regular who has not ordered in three weeks and sends them their usual with a few euro off.
Can Eclyde handle the same volume?
Yes. The ordering page and kitchen queue are built for a busy Friday, and the till keeps working through a dropped connection and syncs afterwards. Your kitchen will be the bottleneck long before the software is.
What does it cost compared to commission?
€59 a month plus 5% per order on Flexible, or €169 a month billed annually and €199 monthly at 0% commission on Flat Rate. Against 25 to 30 percent marketplace commission, the Flat Rate plan pays for itself somewhere around €700 a month of orders moved across, depending on your actual rate.
Do Just Eat orders still work if I switch?
They flow into the same queue and the same kitchen display as your direct orders, so nothing about your Just Eat trade breaks. That is the point of doing it this way rather than making you choose on day one.
