Eclyde

Comparison

Eclyde vs Lightspeed, compared.

Lightspeed has been in hospitality a long time and is genuinely good at full service: floor plans, coursing, stock control across sites. Eclyde comes at the same job from the ordering and delivery side.

In short

Lightspeed Restaurant is an established hospitality point of sale, strong on dine-in floor management, stock control and multi-site reporting, and already trading across Europe. Eclyde is newer and built around commission-free direct ordering, your own drivers and one kitchen display, at €59 a month plus 5% or €169 monthly billed annually.

What is Lightspeed genuinely good at?

Full service, and the unglamorous parts of it. Lightspeed has real hospitality heritage and it shows in the floor: a proper floor plan, coursing, and the long table that has been in since seven handled without a fuss. Its stock control and recipe costing go deeper than most restaurant tills bother with, which matters if your GP lives or dies on portion control. It reports well across several sites, it is established in Europe with local support and accounting integrations, and it is not going anywhere. For a hundred-and-twenty-cover dining room with serious stock discipline, it is a strong choice.

Where is Eclyde different?

Eclyde starts from the order rather than the table. Direct online ordering with no commission on Flat Rate, your own drivers dispatched from the same screen, and marketplace tickets in the same queue as the dining room. Both plans carry every feature, so nothing sits behind a higher tier waiting to be sold to you later.

  • Commission-free direct ordering on the Flat Rate plan
  • Your own delivery fleet with zones, batching and live tracking
  • Deliveroo, Uber Eats and Just Eat orders in the same queue
  • Every feature on both plans, nothing gated behind a tier

What do the two cost?

Lightspeed sells in tiers and quotes by plan, site and hardware, often with a term attached. That is normal and not a criticism, but it does mean the only reliable number is the one on your own quote. Ask which tier includes the pieces you actually need, what the add-ons cost, what the card processing rate is, and how long the agreement runs. Eclyde is €59 a month plus 5% per order, or €169 a month billed annually and €199 monthly at 0% commission. The crossover sits around €2,800 a month in online sales, and the pricing page shows the working.

Which suits your room?

A full-service dining room where stock control and the floor plan are the daily battle: Lightspeed has the deeper tooling and we would not pretend otherwise. A takeaway, a delivery-led kitchen, or a restaurant whose real problem is that a third of its orders arrive through somebody else's app at somebody else's commission: that is the case for Eclyde. Plenty of restaurants are honestly closer to the first description than the second.

Questions, answered straight.

Not covered here? Just ask us.

Is Eclyde as established as Lightspeed?

No, and it is worth being blunt about it. Lightspeed has been trading in hospitality for many years with a large customer base behind it. We are early. The trade-off is that you get direct access to the people building the product and a real say in what gets built next, which is worth something to some operators and nothing to others.

Does Eclyde handle table service?

Yes. Visual floor plan, table status, course firing, and QR ordering at the table if you want guests ordering from their own phones. Where Lightspeed goes deeper is recipe-level stock costing, so if that is the centre of how you run your kitchen, weigh it properly.

Can I try it before committing?

Book a demo and we will run through it against your actual menu rather than a canned one. There is no contract, no lock-in and no cancellation fee, and there is a 30-day money-back guarantee, so the product has to keep earning its place every month.

Does Eclyde do stock control?

It tracks inventory and flags what is running low, which covers most takeaway and delivery kitchens. It does not go as deep as Lightspeed on recipe-level costing. If you cost every dish to the gram, that gap is real and you should ask us about it directly.

Which one handles a busy delivery Friday better?

That is the case for Eclyde, and it is the clearest difference between the two. Your own drivers dispatched from the same screen, zones drawn street by street, two drops batched onto one run, and Deliveroo, Uber Eats and Just Eat tickets in the same queue as the dining room. Lightspeed's strengths sit on the floor rather than on the road.

Can I run more than one site?

Yes, from one dashboard: shared menus where they match, location-specific pricing where they do not, separate reporting per site and a combined view across all of them.
