Eclyde

For Food Trucks

A food truck till that travels.

Pitches, festivals, a queue in the rain and one bar of signal. Eclyde runs on a tablet with a Bluetooth reader, keeps serving when the connection goes, and tells you which pitches are worth the fee.

In short

Eclyde gives a food truck a till on a tablet with a Bluetooth card reader. It keeps taking orders when the signal drops and syncs when it returns, so a festival day is not lost. Takings are reported per pitch and per event, and customers can order ahead for collection at the hatch.

What happens when there is no signal at the pitch?

A field in Wicklow, three thousand people, and every one of them on the same mast. Eclyde keeps taking orders on the tablet through it and syncs the lot once the connection returns, so you are not writing on a pad and typing it up on Monday. The honest limit is card authorisation. No reader on any system can authorise a card with no connection at all, so if a site has no coverage for hours, know your fallback before you drive there: a cash float, clear signage, and a queue that will wait.

What kit do you actually need in a truck?

Not much, and nothing you have to bolt to a counter you do not have. A tablet on an arm mount, a Bluetooth reader that lives in an apron pocket, and a small printer only if you want paper tickets. It all runs off a power bank when the generator is outside and the cable is not.

  • iPad or Android tablet, no proprietary hardware to buy
  • Compact Bluetooth card reader
  • Your whole menu on one screen, no scrolling mid-queue
  • Cash and card reconciled together at cash up

How do you know which pitches are worth the fee?

A Saturday market pitch and a three-day festival cost very different money, and the festival is not always the winner once the fee, the extra pair of hands and the diesel come off. Eclyde tags every sale with the pitch, so at the end of a season the reporting puts takings against what each one cost you and ranks them properly. Most operators find at least one date they have been doing for years out of loyalty rather than profit. Your numbers will not look like anyone else's, which is exactly why you need your own.

How do regulars find out where you are parked?

Your following is the whole asset, and every order adds a name to it. Ordering ahead for collection at the hatch cuts the queue and banks the sale before you have driven anywhere, which matters on a wet Sunday when footfall is a coin toss. Set collection windows for the dates you are trading and share the link. The honest part: a truck's list builds slowly. Think in seasons rather than weeks, and put the link on the truck, on the bag and on the board.

What hardware do I need?

A tablet and a compact Bluetooth card reader. iPad or Android both work, and there is no proprietary hardware to buy from us. We can point you at models that survive being knocked about in a service hatch, but you are free to use what you already have.

Can I take cash as well?

Yes, and most trucks still do. Cash and card are logged together and cash up at the end of the day reconciles the float against the takings, so the number you write down matches the number the till has.

Can customers order ahead for an event?

Yes. Set up collection ordering with time slots for the dates you are trading, share the link on your socials, and people pick up at the hatch. It is most useful at office parks and markets where people have a fixed lunch break and will not stand in a queue for twenty minutes.
