Eclyde

Comparison

Eclyde vs Toast, honestly.

Toast is a serious restaurant platform with well over a decade of restaurant-specific work behind it. Eclyde is newer, European, and built around direct ordering you own. Here is where each one wins.

In short

Toast is a mature restaurant platform with deep features, hardware built for kitchens and a large US install base. Eclyde is newer, built in Dublin, runs on standard tablets, and costs €59 a month plus 5% per order or €169 a month billed annually with no commission on direct orders.

What is Toast genuinely good at?

Quite a lot, and it would be dishonest to open anywhere else. Toast has spent a long time on restaurants specifically and it shows in the places that matter: terminals that survive being stood next to a grill all summer, handhelds staff carry to the table, printers that do not give up in the heat. The feature set runs deep, from coursing to payroll to lending against your card volume, and the partner list is long enough that whatever you already use, something probably talks to it. Tens of thousands of restaurants run their whole operation on it. If you are a sizeable US operator, Toast is a sensible default and we would tell you that on a call.

Where does Eclyde do things differently?

Three places, mainly. Eclyde is built in Dublin for Ireland first, priced in euro, with the UK next. It runs on tablets you can buy in any shop rather than hardware bought from us. And direct online ordering carries no commission on the Flat Rate plan, with driver dispatch, zones and live tracking in the core rather than bolted on through a partner.

  • Runs on iPads, Android tablets and touch terminals you already own
  • Direct online ordering at 0% commission on the Flat Rate plan
  • Driver dispatch, zones and live tracking in the core platform
  • Priced in euro, built in Dublin, no contract and no lock-in

How do the two price up?

Carefully, because we will not put a number in Toast's mouth. Their pricing varies by plan, hardware, processing rate and term, and the quote you get will not be the quote your neighbour got. So ask for all of it in writing: hardware cost, the card processing rate, per-module fees, the contract length, and what online ordering costs you per order. Eclyde is €59 a month plus 5% per order, or €169 a month billed annually and €199 monthly at 0% commission, every feature on both plans, no contract. Our pricing page has the sums and the crossover point on it.

Which one suits an independent in Ireland or the UK?

If you want the long track record, you are comfortable buying their hardware, and a multi-year agreement does not worry you, Toast is a real option and plenty of good operators run on it. The case for Eclyde is narrower and we would rather state it plainly: a single site or a small group in Ireland, wanting to stop paying commission on customers you already had, and unwilling to buy proprietary kit to do it. We are newer than Toast and we do not pretend otherwise.

Questions, answered straight.

Not covered here? Just ask us.

Is Eclyde as established as Toast?

No. Toast has been at this far longer and has vastly more restaurants running on it, and anyone telling you different is selling. What you get from us instead is a Dublin team you can actually get on the phone, onboarding done with you rather than posted to you, and no contract keeping you if it does not work out.

Can I move my menu across from Toast?

Yes. Send us an export and our team rebuilds the menu, the modifiers and the pricing, then walks the whole thing through with you before you go live. Modifier groups are the part that always needs a human eye, particularly if you have per-side or per-size pricing.

Does Eclyde work in the US?

Not today. Eclyde is built in Dublin and trades in Ireland, with the UK as the next market. If you are running restaurants in the US, Toast is the more sensible conversation and we will say so rather than waste your afternoon.

Do I have to buy hardware from you?

No. Eclyde runs on iPads, Android tablets and standard touch terminals, so if you already have tablets they will very likely do. Payments run through Stripe, so the card reader is the one piece you will need that matches.

What does Toast do that Eclyde does not?

Payroll, lending against card volume, and a much longer list of third-party integrations, for three. Their hardware range is also broader than anything we offer, because we do not make hardware. If those matter to your operation, they are genuine reasons to choose Toast.

Is there a contract or a minimum term?

None on our side: no contract, no lock-in, no cancellation fee, and a 30-day money-back guarantee. Toast agreements commonly run for a fixed term and often have hardware finance attached, so read the term and the exit clause before you sign rather than after.

How long does switching take?

Days rather than weeks for most sites, but plan it into a quiet week rather than the run-up to a bank holiday. Menu build and staff training are the two things that take real time, and both go badly if you rush them into a Friday.

See it run your restaurant.

Twenty minutes on your menu and your numbers. We'll show you what actually changes in the first month and exactly what it costs. If it's not right for your restaurant, we'll tell you that instead.

  • Live in days, not months
  • We build your menu and train your staff
  • No contract, and thirty days to change your mind
